Sigma Nu's Shave to Save
benefiting the St. Baldricks Foundation
In the Spring of 2011 the Brother's of the Beta Tau Chapter of Sigma Nu banded together in solidarity with kids who typically lose their hair during cancer treatment. Several of the brothers and outside participants shaved their heads on Harris Field at NC State. All together, the event raised over $40,000! Because of the event, the chapter was also selected as the recipient of the Deborah S. Moore Award for the best philanthropy event at NC State as well as the Standard of Excellence in Community Service and Philanthropy Awards presented by the Department of Greek Life at NC State.
Building for Habitat for Humanity
benefiting the Community of Buena Vista, Virginia
This past semester, the brothers and recent candidates worked on a Habitat build in Buena Vista, Virginia, just outside Sigma Nu Headquarters in Lexington. The candidates got a chance to bond with the brothers all the while helping to paint walls, put up sheet rock and vinyl siding, frame the house, and clear rubble and debris from the yard. To date, this is the fifth home that the Beta Tau Chapter has helped complete.
Sigma Nu's KickBall Cancer Tournament
benefiting the Livestrong-Lance Armstrong Foundation
In the Spring of 2010 the Sigma Nu Brothers hosted a kick-ball tournament to raise money for the Lance Armstrong Foundation. In addition to the tournament, the brothers also sold t-shirts and hosted a barbecue cookout with proceeds going to the foundation. Sigma Nu would like to give shout outs to the Brothers of Kappa Sigma and the Sisters of Pi Beta Phi who won the Men's and Women's brackets of the Tournament!
